I watch all the old movies. and sit with a sketchbook in front of me. Ill steer clear of dodgy stock in future after my slap off DA management!!
This piece is mostly painted digitally. I have also scanned some watercolours to use as texture and embellished it with a brush from Plus numerous photoshop native brushes. Oh! and the orchid is on my windowsill!
I like what you have done with the hair in this, like a garland of flowers etc. Im not so sure about the sleeve though, (it took me a while to figure out what it was). It sort of looks pasted on without being that connected to the rest of the picture.
Also, you should be wary of using vintage pictures, especially those of the famous, as the photographers will still have copyright on the image. Im not sure if this is what you got a ticking off from management for, but its better to be very wary of using professional vintage photos.
Overall though, I love your style of work with the hair and the background. This is a style I relish in seeing, and hope to see more in future.
Everything you say is true about using stock photography as I found to my cost. Photomanipulation is very seductive and it allows you to be lazy. I shall brush up my photographic skills and drag glitzy women into my studio in future.
